The Festival of the Light. Hoe Fair

The Festival of the Light, which is held around 21 February, commemorates the miracle in which, 500 years ago now, a light from Montserrat came into the church of Carme. In this way, the conflict that had interrupted the construction of the Sèquia de Manresa was resolved.
Water and light are the symbols of this festival which, in recent years, has been impressively renewed with the organisation of the Hoe Fair. At this festival, which is held on the Saturday and Sunday before 21 February, the old quarter of Manresa fills with craftspeople, masters of old trades demonstrating their arts, tightrope walkers, troubadours and other elements and attractions from the medieval repertoire. The busy streets, decorated to give them a 14th-century atmosphere, the smells and the music of other times transport visitors to the very heart of a very lively popular festival, full of activities for children and for older people and with constant surprises:
