The Casino
Considered the principal Modernist building in Manresa, the Casino was the work of Ignasi Oms i Ponsa. From its beginnings, in 1906, it operated as a social club for the well-off classes and as a gambling venue, until the Francoist dictatorship banned this practice. Then, the so-called Gentlemen's Casino began a progressive decline that led it to close its doors in the 1970s. And it was not until 1999, after a full renovation, that the building once more came to life, with the opening of a large public library and cultural centre.
