Món Sant Benet

The Món Sant Benet has been planned as a group of several unusual but integrated projects. establishing an attractive option designed for everyone. The projects are enriched with the diversity of options established there. The purpose of this new design – new in Catalonia if compared with other monuments – is to harmoniously integrate different uses and projects in order to establish an attractive option designed for diverse audiences and providing different reasons for visiting (the family, business and school audiences, organised groups with cultural motives, etc.).

About a monastery and a cultural and tourist site
It was the year 2000 when Caixa Manresa purchased the monastery of Sant Benet, founded in the 10th century by a noble couple, Sal·la and his wife Ricardis, in order to turn this monument site into an important tourist destination that was, at the same time, a bold educational and cultural project.
Shortly after the site was acquired, in 2000, work began on drawing up schemes to restore it. The task of the architects responsible for restoring and adapting the monastery, Francisco Javier Asarta and Josep Maria Esquius, consisted of restoring part of it to be used as a museum space (in the rooms with the greatest historical and architectural value – basically the eastern half of the monastery) and part for congresses and conventions.
Món Sant Benet has been designed with the idea of revitalising a new, more dynamic central Catalonia, a geographical area lacking this kind of facility and with very considerable cultural and tourism potential that has, until now, been very little exploited. In this way, Caixa Manresa is making a considerable effort to contribute to promoting inland tourism and turning El Bages and central Catalonia into an important tourist destination.
